Review: Great instructors are the stars of this program
The Offshore Sailing program provides a great opportunity for sailors of all levels to hone their skills. The boats are in excellent condition, well out-fitted for training and the instructors are prepared to teach and organized. I have attended 2 other schools in the past and would highly recommend this program to anyone. It was far superior to anything else I have experienced and worth every penny invested.

Review: expected more for cost
Captiva Island, Florida. Took two courses, basic keelboat and bareboat. The first course was on a Colgate 26. The instructor was very knowledgeable and patient. The three day class was good starting at 8 and ending around 4. The second class, bareboat certifacation was a four day course a different instructor and on a 49 foot Hunter. Two days the class ended around 2 oclock. I did learn a lot at the school since I had only sailed on inland lakes. I felt that more docking procedures could have been taught, more of what to expect when leasing a yacht, and more hands on sailing. The resort basically shutdown at six, including the pool. The seven Colgate 26 keelboats sat idle while we had to share the Hunter with another group. I felt that as soon as the subject of the day was covered, class was over. The brochure stated that class room instruction was from 8 AM to 6PM which never happened. I do not have any other school to compare Offshore with but feel it could have been better.

Review: Solid instruction both on the water and in classr
I strategically gave my wife a Basic Keel Boat course in Jersey City, NJ in late April. The format was 2 weekends. The classroom time covered all material in syllabus in an easy to understand format that progressed from the most basics. The sailing portion was excellent. The instructor let everyone make mistakes such that we could all learn from them. This included trying to sail moderately overcanvassed and then attempting to hove-to fully canvassed in 20 knott of wind. We repeatedly practiced tacking/jibing and all the rules of the road as we evaded cruiseships, tugs and many ferries. The instructors (3) had really laid-back attitudes, yet were able to make everyone feel at ease. They separated couples such that women would learn independant of their spouses. I would not recommend a course in April, the temperature on the water was barely over 40F. The Colgate 26 is an excellent learning platform. The cockpit is huge and comfortable for at least 6 adults. The boat feels solid and performs well. Oh... 4 years later my wife has yet to forgive me for the "gift", but we purchased our first sailboat soon after the course.... so all is well
