| Review: | Zero to Hero - Amazing Experience! From the very start Captain Chris and Captain Matt were fantastic and their enthusiasm spread through the course very quickly. The delivery of the training was exceptional. A course I thoroughly enjoyed, with plenty of opportunity to practice new skills. I highly recommend it to anyone to book a place on one of their many trips or courses. Great place and fantastic opportunity to meet amazing people. Thank you for making this course so interesting and an enjoyable environment to learn and for the generous and professional sharing of your knowledge and experience. Your sense of humour made me feel at ease right away. THANKS FOR SUCH A MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCE! Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | "Zero to Hero" with GCT - Gulf Charter Thailand Captain Matt answered all my question which I had before to make sure to select the right place! Gulf Charter Thailand is definitely the place to go. The instructors at Gulf Charter Thailand, Captain Chris and Captain Matt are highly professional and are well experinced with many nautical miles. The IYT Bareboat Skipper course "Zero to Hero" is well organized with Hands-on training sessions in perfect training condition. The offshore condition are perfect to Learn how to sail incl. a depth sea port in Laem Chabang with navigation thru the traffic separation zone and of course also the over night passage to Koh Chang Island at the end of the course were perfect opportunities to use our knowledge as young Skippers. Definitely will visit them again ... Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | Zero to Hero Great course with great instructors. I feel the strengths in this course was the night sailing and learning how to navigate in water where the traffic is busy. The accommodations were not what we expected but we were able to move up to a one bedroom condo for a reasonable price. Plan on spending some downtime after the course if you want to spend some beach time in Thailand as the course is full and not much time to relax. Comments [ 1 ] |

Course is very intensive, prepare to work. Guys took a great care of everything during my training, also helped co-students with lots of things, many thanks for your care, my friends! Also this is a big adventure, on practice voyages you will see unique scenes of Thailand, you never seen before! This was unforgettable learning holidays, thank you Gulf Charters and hope to see you again! Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | The Real Deal Intensive training with effective, hands on sessions. Amazing instructors, highly professional. Great learning environment with multiple training grounds including traffic seperation zones, coastal navigation, islands, tidal waters in the amazingly beautiful Thai coastal waters. Add to this the over nights with hands on the helm, holding the watch and group dinners at marvelous, hide away, seafood restaurants... The best by far. Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | Gulf Charters Thailand - Terrific Sailing School I heartily recommend Gulf Charters IYT training to anyone interested in learning to sail. I live and work in Bangkok, and the school worked with me to arrange private one-on-one lessons on several weekends. I appreciate their flexibility and dedication to satisfying their customers. The instructors are terrific! They know their stuff, and know how to teach people effectively. Terrific training and guidance. The IYT Bareboat Skipper certification is well accepted all over the world. Since certifying earlier this year, I have been able to charter boats in Southern California and Croatia. The charter companies recognize IYT training as meeting all of their requirements. I will use this certification for many years to come. Gulf Charters is a great place to learn to sail. | Review: | Great Experience Gulf Charters zero to hero programme was very well put together and organised. A lot of work and effort went into it. Chris and Matt the instructors showed a lot of patience and understanding in breaking in a new crew. It was a credit them both. The instruction both on and off the water was well prepared and in the two weeks period an amazing amount was learnt about the skills of sailing. The programme involves both classroom and of course sailing, both day and night. I would highly recommend to anyone interested in taking a sailing course talk with these guys first - it was fun, demanding at times and informative. Also the others on the course making up our crew made it a very rewarding and enjoyable experience. Plan to continue with Gulf Charters in the future. Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | These guys are No.1 in Thailand! We have had a fantastic time on a milebuilder trip around the Ko Chang Archeipelo with Gulf Charters Thailand. From the first contact until the last day sailing, Captain Matt and Captain Chris were very professional and organised about the trip. We had Captain Matt as our skipper and his knowledge and passion for sailing was wonderful. My husband and I had done some sailing and RYA courses before, and this trip really gave us the opportunity to put our knowledge into practice and be confident about our skills. We always had positive support from Matt and he made everyone on the boat feel comfortable and have a relaxed time too. We saw some amazing islands and waterfalls. The boat we sailed was immaculate and well maintained. We have seen other boats in the Gulf charters fleet and they all look excellently looked after. We will be going on another trip with these guys again, definately. Do not hesitate to book your place on one of their many trips or courses! Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | One on One Bareboat Charter Certificate My wife and I learned to sail with Gulf Charters in December 2010. We opted for a one on one sailing lessons so that our children 6 and 9 could come along as well. The 8 days on board were great fun and educational for all while we earned our Watchkeeper/Flotilla Skipper Certificate. The practical knowledge and tips learned that were not in the reading materials will last a lifetime. In February, I completed my Bareboat Skippers certificate course with the same instructor. As with the first trip, we did a one on one course with the family on board as well. Again, another great experience that I would highly recommend. Since May, I have been learning sail trim and racing techniques in the monthly club races. A great opportunity to hone your sailing skills. The skills learned have allowed me to confidently navigate a 90 foot powerboat in Phuket and a 60 foot powerboat in Samui. I would recommend Gulf Charters to anyone looking to learn more about sailing cruising boats. Comments [ 0 ] |

The flexible instructors made sure we covered everything even when practical things (like the weather!) got in the way on occasion. In general it was a smooth experience, great people and great food onboard (and of course also in the excellent sea food restaurants in the fishing villages we visited!) Comments [ 1 ] |

The instructor Matt was really passionate and dedicated - and patient! Accommodation in bungalow was kind of tough for me - after the first night I switched to the adjacent hotel - very kind people. The weather was good and wind perfect for learning. A great vacation with a lot of learning - and fun! Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | Great experience I did the Crew, Watchkeeper a Bareboat Skipper courses. I had a feeling for wind and sails from my windsurfing, but I hardly ever sailed on a bigger boat. After these courses I feel confident enough to charter a boat and sail it. Captains Matt and Chris were great instuctors. They systematicaly make you familiar with the required theoretical know-how and give you the hands-on experience needed to feel confident to go out and sail all by yourself. You get ample chances to take responsibility for the sailboat and learn from the mistakes, from your own and from others. On top of that they made sure you are well prepared for each examination, and that you feel good and have a nice time too. Great location to sail. Nice climate, beautiful beaches, great scenery, good wind (up to 5 Bft) and all kind of very instructive shipstraffic during day and night. I enjoyed these courses as instructive and pleasant holidays wich gave me at the end of the day not only skills, know-how and a certificate but also the understanding to use it wisely. | Review: | Challenging & Fun I am a 41 year old inspiring sailor looking towards retirement. When I first signed up for the Zero to Hero course, I wasn't sure what I was going to exactly get out of it. I hoped I would be confident enough afterwards to take a charter boat out to sail on my own. Well, the IYT instructional modules that the Gulf Charters instructors delivered help me to not only feel 200% more confident in my ability to step on a boat and not only be able to raise the sails and get from point A to B, but also trouble shoot some basic yacht systems like the engine or a water leak, etc. I can effectively use charts to plan voyages and determine the basic weather patterns by just looking at the sky. These instructors really gave us all that they had. We were always learning and physically working. Being sore and tired mentally and physically is a sign of good learning for sure. I would recommend anyone with a serious interest in owning their own yacht or to simply learn how to sail and cruise independently of a professional captian needs to send these guys an email. Gulf Charters also has join in cruises and racing events I am going to do in the near future. They have a little community here and their network has allowed me to serve as crew on other peoples cruising adventures too. Allen, UK Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | Great course, in a great place I had some previous sailing experience and even an ocean voyage but was many years ago, I was hesitant about doing the course from the crew certificate stage but I went ahead and I completed the 5 day crew course in July 2010. It was a great experience and well worth the money and defiantly learnt a lot of valuable information and experience and had a great time in beautiful Thailand while doing the course, the instructors Captn Tim and Chris where very experienced and enthusiastic at passing on their knowledge. Also the Gulf of Thailand has a wide range of sailing conditions with a major port, all types of navigation markers & a international shipping lane to experience. Cant wait to go back to do the rest of the courses Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | Great school, I think I attended for three one week sessions split over two years under two different captains. My feeling was that the experience was worth the money and the instruction was free. I also returned for an overnight mile builder. Probably I will return again for more sailing experience. Thailand may be the best place in the world to sail. It is difficult to rate the instruction, because I have only been to Gulf Charters, however, I don't know what they could have done to make it better. Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | A Positive Mental Attitude I took my flotilla skipper, bareboat skipper and vhf all together. I have been working at sea for over 25 years. Man and boy so to speak. I elected to get as much done as possible. at the time Gulf Charters were just starting out. their enthusiasm, commitment to students, understanding and ability to impart the experience of the ages are a tribute to the professionalism with which they regard what they are working to achieve. so many establishments around the world pursue the sausage machine approach. suck em in, churn them through and take the money. Gulf Charters and its dedicated staff demonstrated the patience of joab since they believed that it was in their interest that their students were the best. A pleasure to recommend them. as a result of their time patience and commitment i have gone on to complete my Master of Yachts S/Y Commercial 200GRT qualifications with 7 East Yachts in Antibes. the success of which is in no small part attributable to the buys at Gulf Charters. | Review: | The Why explained I am a 62 year old lifelong powerboater and budding sailor. The training at Gulf Charters helped me both with Power boating and of course sailing terminology and techniques. The two things that impressed me were (1) Everything was explained with a why, including a range of risks, proper planning and responses. (2)Learning to sail in the Gulf of Thailand was just plain cool. Gulf charters runs a professional operation and while I have not been able to take advantage of the join in cruises, they have a good network programs to build sailing time while having a very good time with like minded people. As an expat working in Singapore, I kicked myself for not having gone over much earlier. It very economical and easy to get to the school. Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | Well worth travelling around the world for... I took the zero-to-hero program in March and really learned a lot. I began with some (albeit limited) experience sailing - I live far from the sea but near many fresh water lakes. Class instruction was the right amount to get us aboard and ready to really learn. Most instruction was on-board and very practical. Experience is the best teacher so they provide that experience. Class size was small so we got a lot of personal attention tailored to each of our needs. The facilities for teaching ashore are great - they use a beautiful hotel with full facilities available to the class. They include accommodation in comfortable albeit basic huts on site. I chose to stay in a nearby condo in the village where I really got to learn about the ex-pat life style in Thailand - a bonus to the course. I certainly found some of the nicer places to eat for the class. You can't beat the Gulf of Thailand for winds and weather - we got almost everything including a squall but never dead calm. I get enough of that on our lakes! Overnight anchorages are a great introduction to the cruising life style. Captain John (our afloat instructor) was a great chef too! The overnight sail on the Skipper course is an experience that any new Skipper must have. I will never forget what I learned there. The boats are large and well equipped - we used a 46' Beneteau and a 42' Jeanneau. Like any boat, there were minor flaws that served well as teaching opportunities. One had had a minor fuel leak that left a fuel smell that was bothersome (and I was in the cabin beside the engine compartment). That could have been cleared up better by the G-C maintainers, but otherwise no complaints. The instructors were extremely knowledgeable and yes, they want you to pass. Why teach if you don't? They are not professional teachers - they are professional sailors with a passion to share what they know and make sure you understand it. They willingly admit mistakes and use them as teaching points. I am a professional at teaching adults and I can see where they could use some help in instructional techniques, but they are definitely not there just to ram you through, give you a certificate and sell you more courses or charters. I felt no pressure to attend more or to buy more - in fact I'll probably be back (despite the long trip from Canada) just to sail with them. The learning has already served me well. With a friend here at home I can see that what I learned puts me in a class well ahead of most of the experienced sailors in their own yachts here on our lakes. My friend (a boat owner) is learning form me now. G-C offers a discount for chartering if you are a past student. We didn't learn that until the course was over. That's hardly a pressure sales tactic! The cost is great - I don't think you can get a better deal with more value for your money. By combining three courses together on the zero-to-hero program they keep your overall costs low. It certainly worked for me. There are no breaks between the 3 courses though and by the end of it we were all wishing we had at least one break in there somewhere. Part of the value they offer comes from being in Thailand, a fantastic place to visit. As a world traveler I'd have to rate the location itself as top notch - friendly, great food, great accommodations, low cost..., I'd go back. The political turmoil that's in the news is very localized in Bangkok and had no impact where we were (and that was during the "crisis"). The only drawback - it takes me 24 hours to get there! I highly recommend it - and I am definitely not an employee. Just a very satisfied customer and fan. Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | Done by employees Most reviews are done by employees. Not to be trusted. Gulf Charters sign you up, have you meet in class, and all their focus is to get you to buy their next course. The exams are designed so everyone will pass them. If you are too stupid or ignorant Gulf Charters will supply you with the answers before the exam starts. All designed for the client to buy the next level of course. These courses have little or nothing to do with seamanship. Money rules, you just happens to come with it. Comments [ 3 ] |

| Review: | Thai-fun The Gulf Charters school is ideally situated: warm water, warm winds and Thai charm. The boats are 5 minutes out from the berth to sails up. The onsite hotels are great and reasonably priced; nite life in town is nearby. The sailing and the instructors are seasoned sailors and they are wonderful at instilling their passion for the sea in both novice and experienced sailors. The Gulf provides a great mix of leisure, commercial and fishing vessels that enable all aspects of navigation to be experienced without being overly crowded and intimidating. Overnights to small bays with perfect clear water and white sand beaches leave you wanting it to never end. Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | Professionalism coupled with Fun The " competent crew " course which I enrolled in by the end of 2005 , greatly helped me on the way to get going for sailing my own boat. Location and facilities are perfect in Ocean Marina . Instructors made it a pleasure and a challenge to complete the course. More time could be attributed to actual sailing, if courses would start earlier on the day. Besides the written test, I suggest that practical aspects " on the boat " should also be included in the final test result. Through this course one gets a good reality-check what sailing entails. | Review: | Fun, Informative and a Great Value The instructors are very knowledgeable and experienced. I was able to complete all three courses to bareboat captain and each course was well planned, informative and fun. We spent just enough time in the classroom to understand the material, but best of all we had great practical lessons while sailing in the beautiful gulf of thailand. Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | Koh Chang The classes at Koh Chang were the right size, and the instructors were VERY experienced, and personable. They have a great location, and very nice facilities to enjoy yourself for a few days. The boats were in fine shape, and they had enough hired help to take care of things that needed to be done. Reccomend this school to anyone wishing to learn sailing. Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | Highly Recommended Went through the IYT programm to Bareboat Captain within a year and found the courses a fantastic value, the learning location is ideal. GCT are extremely flexible and when i needed to get the VHF certificate they put together the course for me with almost no notice at all and with only me attending. I have now based my boat in Singapore but be sure i will be back at Ocena Marina and Koh Chang for sailing with GCT again. Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | Not Your Average Sailing School If your looking for an IYT accredited sailing school with a touch of adventure, check this one out. Knowledgeable and seasoned instructors, potential to sail a great variety of boats (I learnt on a 32' Beneteau, 38'Fountaine catamaran, 42'Jeanneau, up to a 52' Wharram!) Throw in anything from 10 - 30knots of wind and you're having fun. Not to mention the fact that you're in Thailand. Recommended. Comments [ 0 ] |
