| Review: | Yachtmaster Prep and Exam My cousin Pete and I did the YM prep week. We were joined by another chap, Bob, doing his CS. Bob also came along on exam day and did us proud. Thanks to Chris for his expertise, patience and humour. Mandy was fabulous, we were provisioned admirably, and her sausage casserole was a delight. Administration was 100% with excellent communication. There was a cabin each, (no sharing), a big plus. I can only give everything about our experience as 10 out 10. | Review: | Birthday Surprise My husband has always wanted to learn to sail, so as a surprise booked him on a day skipper course and myself a CC course. We had an amazing week in Gibraltar. Mandy was fantastic with the admin side of things as I had so many questions before getting to Gib. We were joined by two others, one doing DS and one CC and all got on very well. | Review: | Competent Crew - Excellent My wife and I did the CC course along with two others doing their Day Skipper course. All completed successfully. Having the mixed experience group realy added to the skills learning process and I now feel confident to take Day Skipper training with Hercules in the near future. Chris provided the on-board instruction and I cannot rate this highly enough. Over the the 5 days we visited Ceuta, Estapona, Sotogrande, El Rodeo, Algeciras and Gib. | Review: | Coastal Skipper Courses Hercules Sailing customised a week to meet my requirements: taking the VHF course on a Sunday, Coastal Skipper theory during the week and then finishing off my Coastal Skipper practical with a wonderful sail to Ceuta in Africa and back over the final week-end. | Review: | All the reviews are true! Decided to take my 16 year old daughter sailing for the first time, and do the RYA Competant Crew course together. I looked at schools in Greece, but noted the point about non tidal. Came across the excellent reviews of Hercules and contacted Mandy. Everything other reviewers have said are true, and their flexibility made it easy to arrange.My first time in Gibralter, and this proved to be a good choice as all the different sailing conditions can be experienced - becalmed, fog and 30 knot winds in a week! The instructor Graham made sure that everyone tried everything and worked hard to make sure we got the most out of the course. Hercules offered a personal touch not the predfined rigid schedules of other schools. This is what I was looking for and I was not dissapointed! Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | Quality teaching & Fun for All A great week. We took our daughter and Son-in- law to be. Yes a brave choice but ALL of us had a wonderful time. We had novice sailors and experienced ones but everybody was included. Chris tailored the instruction to each member of the crew and everybody was appropriately challenged. | Review: | YM Ocean practical for Chief Mate 3000t (Y) This was an excellent opportunity for me to gain my Ocean sights and submit them at the end of the week to an examiner. This additional qualification will endorse my current OOW (officer of the watch) yacht rating to Chief Mate 3000t. The course Mandy and Chris ran was excellent, great price,great on organising flexible dates to work with my plans, fantastic teaching with the technical side of it practically explained and ample time being made for it. | Review: | Fantastic Day Skipper course despite the weather! I completed my Day Skipper Practical and VHF License with Hercules Sailing in March 2011. I stayed on Makora. She is a great 38ft boat which sails very easily. The interior finish was of a very high standard. Marina Bay in Gibraltar is very nice (and new) with lots of nice restaurants, bars and even a casino. Mandy was very flexible with my booking requests and managed to design a bespoke timetable to fit my schedule spread over two standard weeks, something none of the other schools had been willing to consider. The VHF theory course was well run by Mandy and we easily covered all the material and practical work given the small class size on the day(only three students). Chris ran the Day Skipper Practical course. Given I had not joined the standard Sunday to Friday course, I was allowed to bring my mother on board as a passenger for the first two days of the course (Friday and Sunday). This was my mothers first time on a sail boat and she had a truly fantastic time as Chris manage to make my mum feel very safe and at ease with his style of teaching style and very obviously huge breadth of experience. Uncharacteristically for Gibraltar, there was quite a lot of wind and rain for the last few days of the course which meant we couldn't go all the way to Smir in Morocco, having to make our way back to the Bay of Gibraltar from Ceuta to seek refuge from the weather. The crossing back to Gibraltar was very exciting as there were some huge swells on the Straights. Although quite hair-raising at the time, it was a fantastic experience and very educational. I was also very glad to have Chris on board, as he ensured we did not feel like we were in serious danger at any point. I had a fantastic time despite the weather and would like to go back for some further practical training with Chris in the future, hopefully in the sun! | Review: | Yachtmaster Ocean - the excellent RYA sail school My opinion about Hercules S. School, can't be better. An excellent RYA sailing school. I base my comments in all the process that Mandy and Chris, helped, teached me, and with such professional, friendly approach. They are truly dedicated all the time. I started the with the preparation week to do the YM Offshore up to YM Ocean with commercial endorsement, all the courses with very good boats, well maintained, and with all the conditions to learn with all the support needed. The sailing experiences and training, specially the Ocean passage, was memorable and due to the experience and very good teaching skills of Chris, he made all the difference, specially because I'm not English, but all couldn't be done better. I had all successful courses, due to his effort and professional approach. As a Portuguese and sailor, I will recommend Mandy and Chris, highly ! ..to anyone who is looking to do any RYA course. In all that I experienced wile in the courses with Mandy, as well as in the preparation of the time to be in Gib. she was most helpfull and fund always the best solution . In all the time I sailed and studied with Chris and Mandy, I can just say that they really are good and know what they're doing. In the most friendly way, very professional manner but also relaxed form, allow me to catch up learn and pass my exams. - Hope to sail again, and visit my new friends, many times in the future ! | Review: | Hercules Coastal Skipper This is an excellent school. The boat we used (Queens) was well equipped and fully working. Our instructor John was very knowledgeable, friendly (non-military) and really knew the areas we were visiting. I learnt a huge amount from the theory instructors (Chris and Mandy), as well as the practical instructor John. Lots of tips were picked up and a huge amount of advice relating to boat owning came from Chris and Mandy. I had an excellent two weeks and would recommend this school to anyone. Also very helpful in putting me in touch with another school to do the First Aid course, which they didn't do and also in finding me a trip for a final 60 mile passage which I still needed. I found aspects of both courses challenging and was thankful for the dedication and patience of the instructors. Moreover, we maintained a sense of fun and enjoyment throughout. | Review: | Excellent Sailing School I feel very lucky to have stumbled across Hercules Sailing. It was pure luck that I found the friendliest, relaxed yet most thorough of sailing schools. I have since completed all of my practical sailing courses with them, from Comp Crew to Yachtmaster. The quality and manner of instruction has been outstanding and their method of imparting knowledge and confidence is second to none. | Review: | Professional and Fun Whilst retaining the element of fun, the course was purposeful in its intention of training and creating competent persons. The sailing took us across to the African continent and round the coast of Spain as well as within the Bay of Gibralter. At the end of course, I felt very confident of my inceased knowledge and eager to further my skills. The boats were well prepared on arrival. Clean and well supplied for the time on board. | Review: | What a great week Highly recomend a week sailing in Gibraltar, visited places like Morroco and coastal Spain, lots of dolphins and pilot wales just outside the marina. The instructor was a laugh, Chris was very patiente , full of energy and with lots of stories to tell. The boat, Queens was well maintained and confortable for our group of 4. | Review: | What a cracking week! My son wanted to do his Day Skipper practical earlier in the year after having passed his shorebased and got some hours in as crew. I already had my ticket, wasn't up to coastal standard and wanted to improve my skills. Tom not only passed his skipper but learned so much more besides. The tutor had sailed round the world and although each day was hard work we learned what we needed to and much more besides and had some really great sailing in the bargain The highlight, for me, having done my ocean night school was having the Tutor, Graham, help me do some real sights - latitude to within a tenth of a mile on a mer pass The whole thing is relaxed and friendly but very professional. The boats are very well kitted, stocked and maintained and you couldn't possibly get any more help with the flights, transport and organisation I have to say when rating I couldn't find fault with anything at all and will most certainly go back in the future Comments [ 0 ] |
